About

 Colette Bachand

A dedicated and passionate art educator, Colette Bachand has been inspiring students and art enthusiasts since 2016. Colette completed her Bachelor of Education with a major in Fine Arts at the University of Alberta. With a career spanning nearly a decade, she has touched the hearts and minds of hundreds of students from Kindergarten to twelfth grade through her engaging and thought-provoking art classes.

Currently, Colette serves as an art teacher at Classical Academy in Edmonton, Alberta. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes learning from the great masters of art, encouraging students to draw inspiration from historical and contemporary artistic giants. This classical approach ensures that students not only develop technical skills but also gain a profound appreciation for the rich history of art.

In addition to her teaching, Colette is an accomplished artist. Her work primarily focuses on the dynamic interplay between background and foreground, utilizing a variety of materials to bring her artistic vision to life. Colette's creations, which range from drawings to paintings, are crafted with gouache, acrylic, charcoal, pencil, and pen. She draws inspiration from the everyday beauty of life, aiming to capture the essence of her subjects, be they people, pets, or the materiality of the background itself.

Colette believes in the transformative power of art. Whether through her teaching or her own artistic practice, Colette is committed to fostering a love for art in all its forms and helping others discover the beauty in the everyday.

Artist statement:

“I produce drawings and paintings with a focus on the interplay between background and foreground. The materiality of the background plays a primary role in the setup of the piece. I reference a wide array of materials from people to pets and create these works with gouache, acrylic, charcoal, pencil and pen. There is beauty in the everyday, and my goal is to capture it.”
